KWSC Newsletter - vol.2

KWSC MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Dear KWSC Member,
The KWSC executive would like to wish you all a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We are now officially in the 2006 season and it is time to gear up full throttle as the club has many events and programs left to plan.

Correction

In the fall, 2005 newsletter, the membership was asked to forward email addresses to the executive. However, there was a spelling error in the e-mail address. Please forward your name, members under your family name (family memberships only), email address, and phone number to kyle_kwsc@hotmail.com. We would like to stress the need to communicate with the membership strictly via e-mail and through our new website which will be up and running by February 1st. If we can cut unnecessary expenses such as printing and postage, we can invest money in other much needed areas; i.e. Slalom course repairs and maintenance, a new ski jump, a wakeboard park, and cutting expenses to the membership. If you are not able to communicate with the executive via e-mail, please inform us and we will make alternate arrangements.

New Executive Member

We are extremely happy to have Michael Greier step up and volunteer his time as the KWSC's VP Special Events.  Michael was born and raised in Tisdale, and during the last 6 years has become deeply involved and passionate about water sports. Michael's experience in fundraising for such things as the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race, his profound involvement in the wakeboarding community, his professionalism as an accomplished engineer, and his remarkable determination to see the KWSC grow and succeed, make him a first-class addition to the executive board. We are excited to have Michael's experience and enthusiasm as part of our team that will organize special events including cabarets, press releases, large-scale wakeboard competitions, and other unique social events.

Upcoming Events

As our list of events becomes finalized and plans begin to take flight, the executive finds itself short on volunteers. The following is a list of events that we are still searching for volunteers.

May 20th Slave Auction
We need people to volunteer their time as “slaves”. You may be bought for anything from installing docks and boatlifts, to cleaning the cabin, to working on the nearby farm; whatever needs to be done. This is a friendly way for the community to help each other and raise money for the local water sports club.

July 4th – 7th Annual Learn-To-Ski and Wakeboard Clinic
We are seeking individuals who are willing to cook meals for the coaches and boat drivers throughout the clinic. These people put in long, tiring days and cooking supper for themselves at the end of the day becomes quite the chore. These meals do not need to be special; casseroles, hamburgers, or if you must, steak and lobster would suit them all just fine.

July 14th – 16th 3rd Annual Flying Beaver Big Air Wakeboard Championship
We need several volunteers for this event and all jobs require no experience. Jobs available are:

  1. Bartenders and liquor ticket sales
  2. Dock Starters (keep competitors on time and in order)
  3. Calculators (calculate and post scores)
  4. Set-up and take-down crew (put up fences, banners, sound system, dock, etc)
  5. Various pre-event planning objectives

New Program for 2006

The KWSC is proud to announce a brand new program they have developed to help introduce its members to the competitive aspect of water sports. The program designed by the KWSC is meant to boost a variety of skills and confidence to enable new, or relatively new competitors get the most out of competition and to succeed to their fullest potential. This program is not intended for elite athletes but merely as a stepping stone from recreational water sports to elite training. If you are interested in competition, or simply want to see your skill level drastically increase, this program is for you. All details will be made available via e-mail and the club’s website.

Fee Adjustments

In order to operate on a mere break-even budget, the KWSC must raise its membership fees and clinic fees. Please see the included Membership Registration Form and the Clinic Registration Form for full details and benefits. If you have any questions in regards to these adjustments please contact us and we will gladly discuss the reasons for changes. Also, we anticipate a KWSC AGM early in the season where a presentation will be made by club Treasurer, Leigh Estabrook in regards to these and other financial issues.

We appreciate your cooperation in switching to an electronic form of communication. If you are available to volunteer for one of our many events this summer please express your interest and we will work to accommodate your schedule and area of interest. We all need to work together to make our organization grow and be successful.

Check out the club’s website regularly for details about upcoming events, benefits to members, news about KWSC and Saskatchewan athletes, and visit our forum page to discuss any issue and get feed back from others.

Sincerely,
Kyle Nontell
