KWSC Newsletter - vol.3
OCTOBER 2006
Message From the President
Time to change and time to grow; the summer has left us now and we must turn to face the encroaching 2007 season. The past year has been a remarkable journey for me; I have found new spark in an old flame. My commitment to water sports ground to a halt after I finished my most recent competitive season in 2001. The inspiration I have received from all my colleagues, club sponsors, ski buddies, family, friends, and of course, the young upcoming kids, has rejuvenated my passion for water sports and given me an immense desire to influence the programs in our sport to benefit everyone. I have sacrificed many things in the past year for the club, and wish I could have sacrificed more. I have gained such incredible experience that I will take with me throughout my life and look forward to using to advance the Club. Of all the wonderful things my time with the club has given me, the most valuable is my ever-growing desire to see water sports flourish at Kip, in Saskatchewan, and across the country; and that is something I am grateful to you all for. Thank you all and I look forward to working with you for the betterment of our club.
Message From the Treasurer
With the help of our Club’s volunteers and executive team, 2006 was a good year financially for KWSC. There were several contributing factors to this year’s positive outcome. First, the BBQ and beer gardens which were held at the Flying Beaver Big Air Tournament on June 24, 3006 were very successful. With great weather and outstanding support from cabin owners and the public, we had good financial results from this event. We are sure to repeat this success in 2007. Second, the ski clinic (now known as the Rip N’ Ride Program) was very well attended. The fees charged this year covered our costs and rather than our Club going into the red for this program we actually broke even. Third, we had a number of donations which contributed to our bottom line. Donations included cash, money from personal bottle returns, gear donated for the silent auction and equipment donations such as a water pump for the jump.
A full financial report will be forthcoming and available to all members once I have all debits and credits settled.
With our positive financial outcome in 2006 we can build upon our successes and look forward to a fantastic 2007.
Thank You
It just wouldn’t be possible without our team of volunteers and sponsors. From all of us on the Executive, we would like to sincerely thank you (in no specific order):
Erin Brooks, Faye Nontell, JoAnn and Glen Jestin, Michelle Badiuk, Tub girls Tara, Ashley, and Melissa, both sets of Buckles, Heather Poffenroth and the team at Kip Regional Park, Heather Thompson, Ted Phenix, Lyle Dunkley, Riley Ness, Kyle Dagg, Brady Nontell, Frank Hessler, Cory Penner, the Monz’, Karin Smith, Tracy Brooks, Saskatoon Watersports, BackSide Boardshop, Propaganda Sports, Beeland Co-op, Great Western Brewing Company and our Webmaster Tyler Hrycuik.
A lot of people and businesses have helped us along the way – to all…..THANKS!

3rd Annual Flying Beaver Big Air Wakeboard Championships
The 2006 version of this event was a success despite all the hurdles we faced. Blocks seemed to be set against us everywhere, from a lack of volunteers, to discovering one day prior to the event that our sound system was double booked. We did, however, make great steps forward. We made a name for our club with many competitors, spectators, media groups, and sponsors; we brought some light to the sport and inched its promotion along; and the most significant gain our club made was the knowledge and experience that we can now pour into next year’s event.
We appreciate your cooperation in switching to an electronic form of communication. If you are available to volunteer for one of our many events this summer please express your interest and we will work to accommodate your schedule and area of interest. We all need to work together to make our organization grow and be successful.
Learn to Water Ski and Wakeboard Clinic
This year we chose to implement the new WSWC Rip N’ Ride Program as the basis for the Learn to Ski and Wakeboard clinic which was held July 4th – 7th. It was a fantastic program (report cards, accomplishment stickers, etc.) that the kids really enjoyed – kids of all ages in fact. The report cards were filled out by the coaches and it certainly left the clinic participant with very definite goals and skill sets that were needed for making the next level on the report card. With 25 participants, the clinic was at capacity for all four days. We ended the clinic with a recreational tournament for all the participants. Troy Monz and Braden Stamborg were the judges and they certainly had a tough time choosing the winners with each participant improving so much over the four days.
Call For Volunteers Now!
Our volunteers have made incredible sacrifices to see the Kip Club succeed and to see every participant smile, regardless of how cold the water has been. Individuals have given hundreds of hours of work, hundreds of dollars in phone bills, gas, and miscellaneous expenses. Some volunteers have given their playtime up so others could relish in the summer fun; some have gone as far to cancel training with the world’s top ranked coaches to be a part of our club and our events. There is something most definitely addictive about helping our club. The reward is absolutely incredible; whether it be a young child running up the beach, proudly grinning to her mom after she stood behind the boat for her first time, or having one of Canada’s best wake boarders tell you that YOU put on an incredible event. The work begins today though. In order for the Kip Club to remain successful and stable for the future, we must all put in some effort. It does not take much to move forward if we do it together. Let us know what you are interested in helping with and we will let you know when something comes up that we can have you do. There are no difficult jobs in organizing Club events; it just takes time and people. Thank you for helping our Club.
KWSC Website
We have one of the most progressive club websites in all of Canada!!
We are endeavoring to have all of our club information on this site – from registration forms, waivers, event dates, calls for volunteers to informative articles about waterskiing and wakeboarding. Hey, why not make this site one of your “favorites” so you can check it out on a regular basis.
FREE BEER!!!
Ok so now that we have your attention……..did you remember to save you receipts for all that Great Western beer you purchased over the summer? Great Western is a proud sponsor of KWSC and as such they will donate $1.00 per dozen to the club on club member purchases for personal use with receipts turned in to the club! For every 5 dozen purchased you get an entry form to enter a contest to win some great prizes. If you didn’t save your receipts you can still start now!

Events and Goals for 2007
Sunday, June 10th, 2007 Annual General Meeting
To be held at Kipabiskau Regional Park at the hall – 12:00 noon.
June 16th, 2007 Boat Driving Clinic
The Kip Club will be host to a boat driving clinic catering to the specifics of towed water sports. Each participant will pull a variety of disciplines with an instructor present in the boat. Participants will learn all the technical aspects of how different boats perform and handle proper care and maintenance, traffic flow in Saskatchewan waterways, and different driving techniques for different skiers and riders. Regardless of your experience behind the wheel, this clinic will give you a vast knowledge. Please check the website for the registration form.
July 1st, 2007 Canada Day Show
The Club will be presenting a ski and wakeboard show as part of the Kipabiskau Canada Day Celebrations to help celebrate our country and to promote our sport. This show is inviting all levels of skiers and riders; beginners to professionals. There will be some slight choreography and rehearsal, probably the day or weekend prior. If you are interested in being a part of this display be sure to let your executive know by mid-June.
July 3rd – 6th, 2007 Annual Rip N’ Ride Program
We have already confirmed dates with Water Ski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan for our clinic so mark your calendars now! We will certainly have the best coaches, the best boats, and the best weather reserved; if you did not enroll this year, don’t miss 2007, the clinic is a great start to the summer. The early registration in 2006 was an incredible help in planning and coordinating the hectic week. Check the website in the near future for registration forms and ways to subsidize costs.
July 21st, 2007 4th Annual Flying Beaver Big Air Wakeboard Championship
The Kip Club Executive is currently awaiting bidding criteria from Water Ski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan for the 2007 Wakeboard Provincial Championships. We have high hopes of being awarded the event and if successful, we will need a great influx of volunteers. These events are not planned the month before, but starting immediately. For next year’s wakeboard tournament to be a great success there are several aspects to be explored and developed. Please volunteer.
KIP CLUB Bringing Home the Hardware
Many people may not be aware of the competitive possibilities in water skiing and wakeboarding. The Kip Club is a great place to learn how to truly enjoy your summer; however, the Club has been for decades a vital stepping stone for many competitive athletes who have realized their dream. If you love to ski or wakeboard, don’t hesitate learning more about competing; it is a wonderful way to push yourself towards success. Contact anyone on the Executive and they will gladly point you in the right direction. In fact, with our Club’s help, Waterski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan (WSWS) identify new talent in the classic events (slalom, trick and jump) and wakeboard/wakeskate. WSWS has funding available to Sask First team members and newly identified athletes as well – so there is money in it too!
